Paula Kay
Planning commission
Paula S. Kay is seeking a third term on the Planning Commission. In this role she has also served as the Commission's Representative on the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission. She brings a perspective anchored in private property rights, personal responsibility and fair play.
Her education includes an M.A.T. (teaching history and social studies) and M.B.A. She has dabbled in fashion design and has a Certificate in Financial Planning, having passed the CFP exam. She has worked on farms, in machine shops, retail stores, research labs, State government offices, and financial administration offices. She is an equipped problem-solver with an attention to detail well-suited for the "big picture" challenges of the Planning Commission.
Paula grew up in Berlin, Connecticut, a farming community. Married for 35 years, she lived in the Boston area. The death of her spouse brought her back to Connecticut family members and on to Old Saybrook where she had vacationed as a kid. Efforts to renovate an historical home in Newton, Massachusetts and then to resuscitate a home in Old Saybrook supplied another important piece of experience in her background to participate on the Housing Task Force of which the Planning Commission is a part.
In approaching issues, Paula's penchant is, often, to seek a balance between competing interests. Community spirit relies on a fair and respectful hearing. She also is protective of the character, history and architecture of Old Saybrook as they make us a community with roots and bring joy to life.
Paula Kay is a current member of the Old Saybrook Republican Town Committee, the Old Saybrook Republican Women's Club, and the Old Saybrook Historical Society. She is an avid gardener of flowers, fruits and vegetables with a growing interest and concern for the vitality of the agricultural sector in Connecticut and in Old Saybrook.
