Zoning Board

Derrik Kennedy has been a resident of Old Saybrook since 2009 and has been an active member of the community through both civic service and business leadership. He has served on the Old Saybrook Board of Finance, Zoning Commission, Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Education Foundation Board of Directors, and the First Congregational Church Board of Trustees, where he completed one term as chair. He was also a member of the Police Building Committee, contributing to long-term planning and infrastructure development for the town.

Professionally, Derrik brings more than two decades of municipal leadership experience. He has held roles as Town Manager for multiple communities, as well as Assistant Town Manager, Administrative Officer, Labor Relations Analyst, and Research Analyst for the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities. His regional leadership includes serving as Chair of the Rhode Island City and Town Management Association (RICTMA) and as a member of the Executive Board of the Rhode Island Interlocal Risk Management Trust, where he helped support collaborative governance and risk management strategies across municipalities.

Today, Derrik is the owner and operator of Sip Wine Bar in downtown Old Saybrook, where he combines his passion for hospitality with his background in public service. He is a certified sommelier and brings a global perspective to the wine community on the shoreline. Derrik and his wife Kelley are proud parents of two children enrolled in the Old Saybrook school system. His experience in both public administration and small business ownership reflects a deep commitment to the town’s long-term success and vitality.
