Shawn Hatchel is running for a seat on the Old Saybrook Board of Police Commissioners, bringing with him a unique blend of law enforcement experience, financial services expertise, and deep commitment to the community.
Shawn's career began in law enforcement years ago, but most recently, where he served as a detective. He received extensive training and certifications in crisis negotiation, accident reconstruction, field training, and rescue diving. Shawn’s background in law enforcement has equipped him with valuable skills in problem-solving, communication, and decision-making that he will apply as a member of the Police Commission.
Throughout his career, Shawn has built a reputation for honesty, loyalty, and trust—qualities he believes are vital to any public office. He views his relationships between the Police Commission and the community as more than just professional partnerships but as friendships grounded in genuine trust and mutual respect.
Shawn holds a degree from Charter Oak State College in New Britain, Connecticut, graduating Cum Laude, and attended Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. His transition into financial services was driven by his desire to continue helping people in a positive, impactful way—something he is eager to continue as a Police Commissioner.
A dedicated volunteer, Shawn is actively involved with High Hopes, a therapeutic horseback riding facility, and enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, exercising, and traveling.
Shawn’s focus as a candidate for the Board of Police Commissioners is clear: to ensure that Old Saybrook’s Police Services maintain the highest standards of professionalism, transparency, accountability, and community involvement. With his background in law enforcement and a strong desire to serve the people of Old Saybrook, Shawn is ready to continue working to make the town a safer and more vibrant place for everyone.
