Mike Kapij

Police commission

Mike is running for the Police Commission. Presently, Mike is a Security Specialist for the Madison Board of Education assigned to Jeffrey Elementary School. He is also a licensed Private Investigator.

Prior to these careers, Mike was employed by the State of Connecticut, Department of Children and Families for 25 years. Mike was an Adolescent Specialist and Investigator on the Child Protection side of the agency. Mike then transitioned to the Juvenile Services Unit/Long Lane School as a Juvenile Parole Supervisor.

Mike has worked with every major city police department within the state and many of the municipal departments throughout his career. He has spent time working with Intelligence Units, Gang Units and Auto Theft Units. Mike has also spent countless hours with both Juvenile/Adult Prosecutors, Juvenile/Adult Public Defenders, Private Attorneys and Juvenile/Adult Court
Judges. Mike and his family have lived in Old Saybrook for 24 years. He believes that strong communities promote healthy families.

His civic involvement includes being a coach with various
Parks and Recreation teams, Old Saybrook Little League and Old Saybrook travel soccer and basketball teams. He was also a member of the Old Saybrook Juvenile Review Board (JRB) for years before it was disbanded by our recently retired Chief of Police. Mike understands how well run police departments operate. He is also an advocate of community policing.

As such, his goal is to work collaboratively with the police commission and
the new incoming Chief and current officers to ensure that our department meets or exceeds standards and builds relationships with the residents of our community.
